Passenger Overboard: Woman Jumps Off Grand Princess Cruise Ship

The reports about a San Francisco woman going overboard on a Princess Cruise ship of class “Grand Princess” affirm that she voluntarily jumped off the vessel, reports CNN.
Her reasons for doing so are not known. The ship’s crew were able to see the woman jump off the ship, but were not within proximity to intervene.
Testimony from witnesses and film footage from security cameras showed conclusively that there was no foul play involved. The woman’s age has been confirmed to be 54 after initial eye witness reports put her age at 30. The ship she was aboard is crossing the Pacific Ocean on a journey from San Francisco to Hawaii. The ship was in the third day of the journey at the time of the incident.
The US Coast Guard sent an HC-130 Hercules airplane with a team ready to conduct a search & rescue mission.
The woman jumped off the ship at approximately 12:00PM HST and the HC-130 took off at 4:00PM HST with ETA of two hours to reach the ship. The vessel she was aboard contains 1,300 passenger cabins spread over 17 decks. The length of the ship is 950 feet with a height of 190 feet.
“This is very sad,” the Princess Cruises spokeswoman, Julie Benson, said in a statement. “This was not an accident. It was apparent that she went overboard intentionally.” She continued, “It’s very apparent from the witnesses and the video that this was her intention.”
Even though the passenger went overboard in cold water, there’s still a chance she survived said Benson.
