Pennsylvania Man Kills Son & Self After Shooting Wife

A distraught father in Petersburg, Pennsylvania brought a gun to his mother’s home over the weekend to meet with his estranged wife and two year old son.

Police there say he shot and killed his son in addition to shooting his estranged wife 3 times.

According to reports, Kenneth Ayers got into an argument with his spouse shortly after arriving to exchange custody of the couple’s young son. He then began shooting, striking his wife with several bullets and fatally killing the child according to police reports.

The 52-year old then sped away in his truck. Police officers later found him in a neighboring township near State College, PA in a secluded wooded area, dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

ABC News describes the scene.

Kenneth Ayers placed the child’s body in the back of his vehicle but the wounded woman retrieved the body before Ayers shot her again in the face, police said. He also fired at his mother but missed.

Ayer’s wife had already requested a court order of protection from him, alleging that he was physically abusive. There has been no word on the status of his injured estranged spouse.

Huntingdon County District Attorney George Zanic said: “Words can’t describe the scene … heartbreaking.”

Zanic said that Kenneth was under a protection-from-abuse order that forbid him from making contact with his wife. The 56-year-old man was still allowed to have supervised visits with his son once a week at his mother’s house.

As part of the Police investigation, an autopsy will be conducted to determine whether Kenneth Ayers was under the influence drugs or alcohol.
