Quvenzhane Wallis Picked For “Annie” Remake
Move over Aileen Quinn! Acting newcomer and best actress nominee Quvenzhane Wallis has been selected to star in a remake of the beloved 1982 feature film “Annie” that featured Quinn, Albert Finney and Carol Burnett. The 9-year old, who did not win the 2013 Oscar competition for her role in “Beasts of the Southern Wild”, will be directed in the new remake by Will Gluck.
Power entertainment couple Will Smith and wife Jada Pinkett Smith will serve as producers of the new “Annie” movie, along with Jay Z,Ty Ty Smith, James Lassiter and Jay Brown.
12-year old Willow Smith was originally set to have the starring role about an optimistic orphan who succeeds despite the challenges of the Depression in New York City. But a very long pre-production period caused the producers to rethink casting the title role which then went to Wallis, the youngest Best Actress nominee in the Academy’s history.
