Sandy Hook Emergency Distress Calls to be Made Public Today
Several 911 distress calls from the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre will be made public today at approximately 2:00PM following a bitter legal battle between the Associated Press (AP) and local prosecutors. The AP prevailed.
Prosecutors argued that releasing the tapes would only reopen the pain suffered by families and friends of the deceased. The AP argued that making the tapes public was in the best interest of their pocket books. Well, the actual argument they used was that they were entitled to the information under the Freedom of Information Act. The AP has made assurances that they will properly review the material for appropriate content before selling it, as you were, releasing it to their subscribers.
The presiding judge in the court challenge dismissed the efforts by the prosecution to prevent the release. Ultimately, the law was on the side of the AP regardless of the emotionally charged nature of the distress calls.
The release of the tapes may bring back into public’s mind the anguish caused by 20-year-old Adam Lanza who used his mother’s semiautomatic weapon to take the lives of 6 educators, 20 children, his mother and ultimately his own life almost one year ago on December 14.
