Candace Bushnell Responds to Sarah Jessica Parker’s Harsh Words

Sarah Jessica Parker starred in the hit television show Sex and the City which was based on the novels by author Candace Bushnell.

Parker recently made some comments about Bushnell’s newest television endeavor that were far from complimentary. In fact, the now 47 year old actress commented that the new show was “odd” but she wanted the star to feel good about it.

“I’m not sure… You know, I think it’s one of those tests of your generosity,” the actress told Net-a-Porter’s The Edit. “She [AnnaSophia Robb, who plays Bradshaw] is a lovely girl and I want her to feel good about it, but it’s…odd.”

This new series is called The Carrie Diaries and chronicles the early years of the character played by Parker in the Sex and the City series.

After hearing the comments that Parker made about the new CW show, Candace Bushnell refused to ignore the offensive comments and fired back with some biting remarks of her own.

Bushnell said that Parker just had a problem coping with that fact that the part that made her famous was “somebody else’s part”.

“The reality is, that’s showbiz. Sarah Jessica’s first part was somebody else’s part,” she told The Daily Beast. “She played Annie on Broadway. She understands how these things work.”

She went on to say that there should not be a third Sex and the City movie because the character of Carrie had gone as far as she could go. She explained that she was no longer a believable character because she would in reality be focused more on her career and less on her love life.

“Realistically, a middle-aged woman who was married without children would be much more focused on her career and less focused on this Mr. Big: ‘Does he love me?’ … ‘Does he still not love me?’” she explained.

“I mean, I think it was coming to the end of what they could do with the character.”
