scorpions beetles menu paris
Visitors to Paris now have an option for extreme tourism that won’t put anything more than your stomach contents at risk. The small bar “Le Festin nu” (French for “The Naked Lunch”) offers up their unique blend of tapas (IE wide variety of snacks & appetizers). In their case, along with chilidogs, guacamole, and chicken tikka, patrons may order from the insect tapas: sango worm, silk worm, grasshoppers, scorpions and beetles.
Chef Elie Daviron said her personal pick is the sango worm which has two types of consistency and savor based on whether you’re munching on the head or tail sections. Chef Daviron says the sango worm body is definitely sandy in taste. On the other end, the head is crunchy and akin in taste to mushrooms and beet roots. Either way, patrons will get a boost of protein.
It has long been the subject of fascination for the 26-year-old chef from the Southern French city of Montpellier. She saw her window of opportunity in a recent report by the UN which categorized insects safe for human consumption. The report stated that insects may one day become part of the European diet for protein. Daviron gets her stash of bugs from Thailand where the insects already are part of the diet of many Thais.
