Sea Snail In Knee: “He moved. There’s a freakin’ little guy in there!”

4-year-old Paul Franklin and his family were on vacation at the beach in Spooner’s Cove, California when he fell on some rocks and scraped his knee. Paul’s mom Rachel cleaned and dressed the wound, and didn’t think much of it. A few weeks later, the cut still wasn't healing and doctors feared he had a staph infection. NOPE! It turns out Paul had a tiny sea snail living in his knee. Paul says the incident was "crazy", and now keeps the tiny snail, named Turbo, as a pet. Maybe little boys are made of slugs and snails and puppy-dog tails after all.

Amazing Footage of Sea Snail Found in Boy’s Knee

A family was amazed as their son’s knee swelled up to the size of an orange. It was truly a spectacle when the culprit was found to be a sea snail, which had been living in the boy’s knee, causing swelling that was worrisome and fearful.

The boy’s name is Paul Franklin, and he had been on vacation at the beach with his parents, where he fell down and cut his knee. At first, his knee looked normal, but this would change.

Over the next few days, his knee refused to heal, and then his parents began to worry as the swelling kept on getting worse. They didn’t know what to think; it had seemed like such an innocent fall and cut at first.

His mother Rachael told the Orange County Register that they thought the cut was “just a little owie, but that it was “one that kept seeping and never quite scabbed up.”

Doctors thought perhaps the boy was suffering from a staph infection, giving him a course of antibiotics.

“He was more freaked out than even I am,” she remembers. “It was no laughing matter, he told us. The infection could work its way into Paul’s bloodstream and cause all kinds of problems. Thinking it might be the superbug, he washed his hands, and made us wash ours right on the spot.”

Pretty soon, Paul had a fever, and his knee looked huge. Paul’s knee turned black, too, and his mother decided to drain the wound.

Going against doctors adivce, the worried mum took matters into her own hands and decdied to squeen the wound. She told the newspaper, “I know the doctor didn’t want to drain this but this sucker needs to be drained!”

This is when the snail was discovered. The sea snail in the knee was still alive, and he came right out when Paul’s mother drained the wound. It was shocking for them to find him alive, but it came as a relief that the problem could be solved with the removal of the snail.

Rachel recalled: “He moved. There’s a freakin’ little guy in there! Bubbles were coming up.” The only comment young Paul had about the sea snail in his knee was “It was crazy!”

Ken Franklin, the boys father, says his son must have fallen on a nest. It is the only thing he can think of.

“How could I, Ken, the urgent care doctor and the pediatrician have missed a black sea snail living in his leg?” Rachael marvels.

Paul, whose knee has healed completely, has named the snail Turbo.
