Actor Sean Connery Faces Spanish Arrest and Prison

The original “007” behind bars in Spain? That’s what actor Sean Connery, who portrayed Ian Fleming’s dashing spy in numerous films is facing if he and his wife Micheline refuse to answer a judge’s questions regarding the sale of their home in that country in the late 1990s.

The 82-year old actor and his spouse allegedly failed to pay the required taxes after selling a coastal property near Marbella, Spain.

In addition, there are charges that the property the couple sold was illegally used to construct numerous condominiums without having the proper rezoning permits, resulting in a scandal in which two local officials were formally charged.

The actor and his wife have so far refused to answer any court summons regarding their property deal gone bad and the subsequent questions regarding their involvement in tax evasion and money laundering, citing the actor’s failing health. But a judge presiding over the matter has issued a final warning to the celebrity couple.

Spanish officials are prepared to issue arrest warrants if they fail to agree to answer questions before December 31 of this year. Connery and his wife, who now reside in the Bahamas, have made no public comment on the matter.
