Loren Ends Retirement Son’s Film

Legendary film actress Sophia Loren will end her self-imposed hiatus from screen projects by coming out of retirement to star in her son Edoardo Ponti’s latest film. The 78-year old actress, whose last acting role was almost 10 years ago, is slated to star in “La Voce Umana”, based on a 1930s stage play authored by Jean Cocteau.

Location shooting for Ponti’s movie is scheduled to begin later this month in and around Rome.

Although the original version of the story was written by playwright Cocteau in his native French, Loren will perform the film version in Neapolitan dialect.

Loren has not committed to a starring role in any film project since 2004, when she appeared in Lina Wertmueller’s comedy offering, “Too Much Romance…It’s Time for Stuffed Peppers.”

Loren’s last acting role in television was in 2010 when she appeared as her own mother in a movie called “My House is Full of Mirrors”, acting opposite Margareth Made who portrayed the screen goddess as a younger woman. “La Voce Umana” is not the first time that Loren has agreed to participate in one of her son’s cinematic projects. She starred in Ponti’s first dramatic film release, “Between Strangers”, in 2002.
