Senior Kills Pit Bull After Attack In Vancouver

Yesterday at Vancouver’s Kitsilano beach a violent confrontation occurred between a pit bull and a pug resulting in the pit bull’s death.
According to the Huffington Post, a 72 year old man was walking his pet pug when they encountered a fellow dog walker. Her pit bull, upon seeing the smaller dog, attacked and bit down on the neck of the pug refusing to release. Unable to separate the animals the owner of the pug used a pocket knife to stab the pit bull in the neck, killing it.
The pug was rushed to the hospital for stitches. Marcie Moriarty with the BC SPCA said that they are trying to find out all the details in order to best preserve safety as well as any self defense issues.
Marcie Moriarty with the BC SPCA said the organization is conducting a necropsy and will be interviewing the elderly man.
“[We want to] see how exactly the dog died, whether he died instantaneously, or [in] pain and suffering,” said Moriarty.
They are currently investigating if the dog died quickly or in pain pending an autopsy.
“It will be important to find out more details about the circumstances, because of course there is preservation of safety and personal safety issues and self defence.”
Despite the incident SPCA is not supporting calls for more legislation on the ban or restriction of pit-bull. Other dog walkers interviewed by CBC News at Kitsilano beach are horrified and disturbed, both at the sudden attack and the violent death of the pit bull.
Police are currently speaking with both dog owners, who are cooperating. No charges are being considered.
