Seven Superman Collector Coins Unveiled

The Royal Canadian Mint revealed seven Superman coins on September 9. The collector coins show various moments in the great fictional history of the famed Man of Steel. The unveiling of the coins took place in downtown Toronto on what was the seventy-fifth anniversary of the emergence of the superhero. Toronto was the original inspiration of the city of Metropolis on the monumental comic books.

Each coin has “75 Years of Superman” engraved on it in Kryptonian, which is the native language of Superman’s home planet Krypton. One of the coins, a 14-karat gold depiction of Superman soaring above metropolis with the famous Fortress of Solitude poised in the background is selling for $750. The other six coins range in price from $29.75 all the way up to $129.75. One of the coins is a hologram and several are made of almost pure silver while others are cupro-nickel. Some show Superman in his newest costume while others feature Joe Shuster’s original design and another shows DC’s Jim Lee’s iconic interpretation.

Coins can be ordered directly from the mint by phone as well as online. They are available beginning on September 10 and are great for both Superman fans and coin collectors alike.
