Canadian Astronaut Chris Hadfield Blown Away By Sandra Bullock In ‘Gravity’
Sandra Bullock’s Gravity blows astronaut away: Chris Hadfield Calls Film Spectacular
When doing a sci-fi thriller, it doesn’t get any better than an endorsement from real-life astronaut and that is the case for the upcoming thriller starring Sandra Bullock.
The $80 million budget film was recently screened at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) this past Sunday and in attendance was Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield.
During his career, Hadfield served a total of 166 days in outer space with his most recent voyage being conducted this year.
So what did the astronaut and operator of extra-vehicular activity (EVA) such as portrayed by Bullock in dramatic fashion in the film have to say about it? Hadfield said the film was “spectacularly good”.
Hadfield has spent a total of five months in outer-space and says the visual effects in the film are realistic. In fact, he said if ever he had to return to outer-space he would definitely want Bullock to accompany him, but that may have much more to do with wanting to spend alone-time with the beauty than for any actual training.
Hadfield said, “Fortunately, the five months I spent on the space station were way calmer. But the visuals were spectacularly good. I don’t know how you did it. And if I ever fly in space again, I want to fly with Sandra.”
The Canadian astronaut later tweeted.
“Good morning! Gravity was fun last night. Fantastic visuals, relentless, Sandra Bullock was great. I’d fly with her,” tweeted Hadfield.
After the screening at TIFF, Bullock talked about how difficult it was to act in a mock-zero-gravity environment.
“The process was so disjointed — we shot from the beginning of one line of dialogue to the beginning of another, and your hand started here and your head had to wind up here while your legs were being thrown up in the air,” Bullock said.
The film co-starring George Clooney is due out in theaters this week. It is Clooney’s first space film since the 2002 box office bomb Solaris. It is Bullock’s first time doing a space sci-fi film.
