Sheryl Crow Cried Over Rape Remark
Sheryl Crow Break Down in Tears Over Blog Comment
Sherly Crow tries to avoid the internet because she feels there are too many negative people waiting to tear down her optimistic spirit. Her feelings were exacerbated when a blogger claimed that her Hank Williams tribute record, “sounded like someone being raped in an open field.”
Deeply outraged and hurt by the blogger and the way he expressed his sentiments, Sheryl Crow wept over the remarks when she decided to muster up the courage and see what was posted about her on the internet after searching her name. While there are many positive reviews of her online, she came across a blog attacking her music. But it wasn’t until the violent comment that it became too much for her. As an artist who creates a positive atmosphere to be creative, she finds herself an ill-fit in an internet culture filled with anger and violence.
This incident furthered her fear and hesitation towards joining the online world, she had this to comment, “And we’ve given everybody the opportunity to have an anonymous platform. We’ve given them momentum – and a community with which to associate. It used to be that if you were like that, you might be an outsider. Now everybody has found their people – who are haters.” Her online search ended there and she hasn’t returned to any websites since.
