The Grinch: Janice Tully steals neighbours Christmas gifts
Barnstable, Massachusetts – An apparent act of kindness by a neighbor in this southern Massachusetts coastal town of 45,000 residents turned ugly this week when the neighbor literally turned “Grinch” and attempted to steal Christmas from two poor families on Christmas Eve no less.
The incident started out with Candida Pina offering Eve Janice Tully, her neighbor, $10 to shuttle her and another woman to two Marine “Toys for Tots” distribution points to pick up donated toys for their children. The charity program provides gifts for families who cannot afford to give their children anything on this holiday. In the words of Mrs. Pina, the holiday season was going to be the best one yet for the children.
However, as soon as the toys were loaded up at the second distribution point, Tully drove off with the toys and stranded the two women. When they later confronted her she merely told the women that they toys were no longer in her possession. Police were called and a search of her car revealed some toys in the trunk. Upon hearing of the incident, the Marine “Toys for Tots” program sprang into action and provided a new lot of gifts for the children.
