The Tweets Will Go On: Celine Dion Joins Twitter
She may be a “Johnny come lately” to social networking, but international superstar Celine Dion still has star power and at age 45 is showing that she isn’t too old to learn new tricks. The singer of classics such as “My Heart will Go On” and “Beauty and the Beast” has a new album out called “Loved Me Back to Life” which she announced on her newly opened Twitter account.
In its first 24 hours, Dion has picked up over 28,000 followers and while she remains a far cry from Justin Bieber’s 43 million followers or Katy Perry’s 41 million followers, Dion’s account is bound to grow. There’s no word on what finally got her to experience a change of heart.
Just two years ago, an Internet meme started which focused on collecting unflattering photographs of Dion. She wasn’t amused and successfully closed down the account in Tumblr via the muscle of her legal team. Perhaps Dion got a dose of reality from the late film legend Charlie Chaplin. Chaplin made his fame doing silent pictures. When sound was introduced into film in what was called “talkies” in those days, Chaplin balked. He fought against the new trend to the detriment of his own career.
