Turkish Man Invents New Method to Quit Smoking

What would you do to quit smoking?

That is a common question asked of billions around the world.

For 42-year-old Ibrahim Yucel of Kutahya province in western Turkey, the answer was self-imprisonment.

Yucel smoked more than two packets of cigarettes per day since high school for more than two decades. Attempts to quit always ended after two or three days.

That was before his father died from lung cancer. Then Yucel made a drastic decision to honor the oath to quit that he made to his family and god.

He created a head cage made of approximately 131 feet of copper wire meshed tightly enough to prevent almost anything from getting near his mouth, reports the Huff Post. He closes the cage around his head every day and locks it with two padlocks that prevent removal without the help of his wife and daughter who each have a key.

Yucel wears it to work and restricts his diet to stick-style crackers and water sipped through a straw.

His wife, children and co-workers found this method strange, but eventually accepted his choice.

Although some have compared Yucel’s quit-smoking method to medieval designs, he states that he modeled it after motorcycle helmets.
