Police officials report that they are searching for the driver of a red Camaro sports car who forced the wheels of his vehicle over the curb and began driving down the sidewalk.
The unexplained actions of the driver lasted less than 30 seconds but managed to terrify about a dozen people walking around the intersection of Dunsmuir and Hornsby Streets.
A bystander who viewed the incident ran up to the car and attempted to open one of the passenger doors, which was locked. The bystander apparently had an exchange of words with the Camaro driver, who then slowly pulled back onto the street and drove off. Police are also searching for the bystander to help them construct a composite drawing of the Camaro’s driver.
Police officials wouldn’t speculate as to why a driver would suddenly decide to leave the street in favor of navigating along the pedestrian sidewalk but said that despite the early hour that the incident took place, it is possible that the driver was under the influence.
