weird news: man wakes up locked inside plane
A man fell asleep during an United Express flight from Louisiana to California and awoke to find he was forgotten.
Tom Wagner was going to visit his sister in California when he decided to take a nap before a layover in Houston. “I just took my hat off and I took a nap,” Wagner said.
When he awoke, the plane was quiet, empty and cold. The doors were locked. And Wagner had been forgotten. When everyone deplaned, he was left behind, asleep in his seat near the back of the plane.
Wagner frantically called his girlfriend. He told KTRK, “She thought I was crazy.” His girlfriend called the airline. Workers found Wagner over half an hour later.
Wagner said, “I didn’t do anything wrong here.” The airline gave him a $250 voucher and arranged a motel room for the night. They did not give him a refund.
“What if I had a medical condition or something? What if I had a heart attack and I was dead? You just shut the plane and leave someone on there?” Wagner said.
Wagner had missed his next flight, but was still able to get to California with help from United Express.
ExpressJet issued the statement, “ExpressJet is investigating how this occurred. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this caused for the passenger.”
