1966 Volvo Clocks Up Its Three Millionth Mile
Take that, little red Corvette. This little red 1966 Volvo P1800 now owns two world records.
The journey began when Irv Gordon purchased the car on June 30, 1966. Pleased to have a reliable, dependable car, Gordon began showing it off to his friends. He kept driving through New Jersey and Connecticut and all the way to his college in Massachusetts.
According to Yahoo News, Irv Gordon bought the red P1800 47 years ago on June 30, 1966 – and has been driving it ever since.
“The day I first bought the car I picked it up on a Friday night and started driving around town and showing it off to all of my friends and local pubs and wherever else,” Mr Gordon said.
“Before I knew it, I was up in New Jersey and up in Connecticut and went back to my college in Massachusetts.”
Gordon earned the first Guinness World Record on March 27, 2002, when, at 2 million miles, he passed the record for greatest ever recorded mileage by a single owner of a vehicle. Now, just over 11 years later, he passed 3 million miles on a trip through Alaska and earned the Guinness World Record for greatest ever recorded mileage in the same vehicle.
Gordon of Long Island, New York, now 74, says that he will keep driving his reliable, dependable Volvo.
“The best way to explore America is by car.”
“I challenge everyone to go out and see as much as possible. Find your own journey and reason to believe because you only have one life to live.
“No matter how many roads I’ve been on, there’s always one I haven’t taken. That’s what makes it exciting.”
