9 Year Old Gives Birth In Mexico: Girl Is Actually 12-13 Impregnated by Stepfather
Recent controversy over a young 9-year-old girl giving birth in Mexico is back.
It turns out, the girl Dafne, is actually 12 or 13. It is also being reported that the father of the girl’s child, is not Dafne’s 17-year-old boyfriend as she initially claimed, but is in fact her 44-year-old stepfather.
“The father is a boy who is 17, but we have not found him, since he ran away,” the mother of the girl told officials last week, according to the AFP.
Once publicity targeted this young girls pregnancy, Mexico officials conducted DNA tests and came to the conclusion that the stepfather was really the one who impregnated Dafne.
“What he has done has shamed our family. I don’t know why the girl’s mother lets him carry on the way he has,” a relative of the stepdad told the Daily Mail. “They’re both liars and I think it’s terrible what has happened. Dafne is a child. She’s just a child. The girl’s mother is in love with him so she protects him, and this is what happens.”
So why has it been so difficult to find out Dafne’s real age?
Sources claim that it’s the fault of the mother, who is a prostitute trying to bring Dafne into the sex trade. Lying about her daughters age can also be contributed to the speculation that a 9 year old can demand higher wages as a prostitute, compared to other a slightly older 12 or 13 year old.
Under Mexican law, it is illegal to have sex with some 14 years old and younger.
Another theory about why Dafne’s mother, who has yet to be named, lied about her daughter’s age, is that it was to get Dafne into school. But according to reports, Dafne has never attended school.
Currently no arrests have been made or charges filed, but police officials continue to search for the 17-year-old boyfriend.
