Andrew Costello reveals truth about weight loss show
Andrew “Cosi” Costello has some unflattering details to share about the show, but he underscores his comments by stating that he volunteered to be on the show and at the end of the day, the program is a business. For starters, Costello says that producers for the show look to instigate drama as personal struggles make for good television. Most contestants long to see their families and during the time he was on the 2008 season, he was allowed to phone his wife only three times at five minutes per call. Producers would ask him and others if they missed their loved ones so as to provoke them to tears and capture that on film.
Also, Costello revealed the secret behind the weigh-ins. The week is a loose term. He said during his season the weekly weigh-in intervals were between 16 and 25 days. Obviously, the longer the time in between weigh-ins the better weight loss that can be achieved.
As for the grand finale, most contestants had gaffer tape placed around their bat wings and sagging belly skin to give a more toned appearance. He refused to be taped. Sadly, most people end up regaining their former weight. In his case, he regained half of the 50kg (110 lbs) he lost on the show.
Meanwhile Tuesday night, 24 year old Rachel Frederickson became the winner of The Biggest Loser:Second Chances, season 15. The voice-over artist from Los Angeles started the competition weighing in at 260 pounds. On Tuesday nights she weighed in at 105 pounds. She lost 155 pounds, 60% of her body weight.
While Frederickson was celebrating her weight loss and her $250,000 grand prize, many fans of the show took to Twitter stating that she lost too much weight. Frederickson stated to People magazine backstage after the show that she got her life back and that she was proud and confidant.
One fan posted a photo on Twitter of the trainers shocked and slightly horrified reaction and posted:
“one girl on the biggest loser lost so much weight that she looks anorexic and this was the reaction of the trainers.”
Another fan posted:
“Rachel’s 60 Percent Weight Loss is Nothing to Celebrate; Biggest Loser Should Be Ashamed”
“I know it’s the biggest loser, but Rachel does NOT look healthy. She looked better @ the end of last episode,” @maseorama said with a photo of Rachel attached.
“#BLFinale rachel went too far. horrible message being sent by her and the biggest loser show,” @ky_ry23 tweeted.
“Am I the only one watching Biggest Loser finale & think poor Rachel looks sick?” @MsDelaney tweeted.
Critics of the show are questioning the safety of the competition. They are also questioning the ethics of making the difficult weight loss diet and exercise that the contestants much go through entertainment.
Regardless of what the critics and fans are saying Frederickson could not be happier about her win and also about her new body.
