Are Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj Really Fighting?

In 2012, a grainy video was released showing Mariah Carey, and most especially, Nicki Minaj at each other’s throats. The video mainly displayed Minaj shouting expletives at Mariah Carey and Carey seemed to be taking it all in with a grain of salt. With all the changes going on at American Idol and competing shows such as The X Factor and The Voice, some have wondered if this is just a ratings ploy.

There are two strains of thought in regards to the incident. While recent reports have stated there is a feud between Minaj and Carey, there was really no substantive proof until the video surfaced. Yet, there are Idol insiders who claim that everyone is in on the fighting and it really is just to boost the ratings, reports Billboard.com.

“The Mariah-Nicki diva battle is exactly what Fox executives wanted all along,” says the source, who insists the two singers are in on the joke. “No one’s really worried. They know the parts they’re supposed to play.”

However, other Idol insiders claim the fighting is real and that Minaj even went as far as threatening Mariah, which caused Mariah to beef up her security detail. Perhaps watching Idol will give viewers an idea of whether there really is a real feud or not.
