The Grateful Dead Member in Onstage Collapse

While playing with a group made up of former members of The Grateful Dead guitarist Bob Weir suffered a dramatic onstage collapse on Thursday April 25th. 65 year old Weir is legendary amongst music fans for his performances with The Grateful Dead, but was playing with the band Further, which includes fellow Grateful Dead member Phil Lesh. Following the guitarist’s dramatic fall he sat out the final portion of the band’s set at New York’s Capitol Theatre; it is also uncertain whether Weir will be fit to play Saturday’s gig in Atlantic City.

The drama unfolded as Further were completing a song towards the end of their nine show run at the Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, New York. In a video shot by a fan Weir can clearly be seen to wobble as the song nears its conclusion before dropping to the floor; crew members rushed onstage to offer assistance and help the guitarist to his feet. Weir completed the song sat on a chair before retiring backstage with the rest of the band. Upon returning after a short break Phil Lesh made the announcement that Weir would not be returning to the stage because of a strained shoulder.
