Photos Assist FBI in Identifying Boston Bombing Suspect

Photos taken near the finish line reviewing area of the Boston Marathon on April 15 have led investigators from the Federal Bureau of Investigation to identify at least one dark-skinned man as a potential suspect in the deadly bombing attack, reports CNN.

“Over the past day and a half, there have been a number of press reports based on information from unofficial sources that has been inaccurate,” said the FBI in a statement released on its website. “Since these stories often have unintended consequences, we ask the media, particularly at this early stage of the investigation, to exercise caution and attempt to verify information through appropriate official channels before reporting.”

“Someone knows who did this,” said Rick DesLauriers, the special agent in charge of the FBI’s Boston office, said. “The community will play a crucial role in this investigation.”

One individual wanted by police officials for questioning was seen near the site of the second bombing location carrying a black backpack, which authorities have identified as the likely way that the bombs were transported to their final destination before being detonated.

The man was described as wearing a white baseball cap which was turned with the visor in the reverse position, along with a black jacket worn over a light hooded sweatshirt. A second man was also pinpointed in the photographs of the crime scene reviewed by the FBI and is also wanted for questioning in the terrorist attack which resulted in three deaths and more than 170 people hospitalized.

“You can guarantee that whoever planted the bombs would have been caught on video, probably hundreds of videos,” Grant Fredericks, an expert in video forensics, told RTV6 in Indianapolis.
