Terrorist Suspect Throat Injury a Barrier to Communication and Interrogation

While the manhunt in Boston has come to an end there are still many unanswered questions that demand answers.

These answers can only be provided by injured suspect Dzhokar Tsarnaev and he cannot speak. For now prosecutors, police and government officials can only wait, guess and speculate.

At this time a wounded Dzhokar Tsarnaev is intubated and listed in serious condition at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick told reporters during an impromptu briefing on Saturday The sole surviving suspect in the Boston Marathon terrorist bombing incidents is not able to communicate verbally with federal officials.

“I, and I think all of the law enforcement professionals, are hoping for a host of reasons that the suspect survives, because we have a million questions, and those questions need to be answered. There are parts of the investigation, in terms of information and evidence, that still needs to be run to ground,” Patrick said.

According to an anonymous source the teenager is reportedly suffering from blood loss and also sustained a severe throat injury that occurred prior to his capture. Doctors are treating these injuries and hope to keep the young man alive so that he can tell his side of the story.

US interrogation experts desperately want to speak with Dzhokar and question him about his motives and suspected involvement with the Boston Marathon bombings. Authorities in Massachusetts have reported that the teen is sedated and on a ventilator. These factors along with the throat injury have made communication impossible.

However, as Elaine Radford from the Inquisitr points out, a college kid probably doesn’t need his voice to commuicate.

There have been no official announcements that any charges have yet been filed by the government against Tsarnaev. However there is little doubt that charges will be handed down if he survives his injuries. The state of Massachusetts may be filing murder charges against the 19 year old college student. Prosecutors have also stated that he is certain to face accusations of federal terrorism.

The official, who was briefed on Tsarnaev’s condition, spoke on condition of anonymity.
