DNA From Cheek Kiss Snares Parisian Jewel Thief
A jewel thief in Paris who threatened, robbed and held the owner of a jewelry store hostage, was nabbed using DNA evidence after he kissed the store owner on the cheek before making his getaway. Two robbers followed the jewelry store owner home prior to forcing her to return to the store and disable the security alarm systems. The pair tied the 56-year old owner to a chair, poured a liquid over her head and claimed they would set her on fire if she refused to fully cooperate.
Prior to leaving with their stash of stolen jewels, the 20-year old thief planted a kiss on the store owner’s cheek for some unknown reason. After the pair left, she struggled to get free and alert police officials. Police were able to retrieve the crook’s DNA from saliva left on his victim’s cheek and they matched it to a criminal already listed on their genetic print database. Within several months, they matched the DNA found on the kiss to a man being held in the south of France for other criminal activity. He confessed to the jewelry store theft and admitted he kissed his victim as an apology for traumatizing her.
