Las Vegas Woman Gives Birth to Healthy Quintuplets
It will certainly feel like a full house for Las Vegas parents Evonne and Dion Derrico when the 33-year old mother brings home the quintuplets she safely delivered this week as siblings for the couple’s four other children.
Evonne Derrico carried two boys and three girls for almost eight months before delivering them this week at a hospital in nearby Phoenix. The family has a tradition of naming all of their children with names beginning with the letter “D”. The newest additions are all healthy and resting comfortably in the hospital nursery, named Daician, Daiten, Dionee, Dariz and Deniko.
“We are all doing great,” father Deon Derrico told the Las Vegas Sun. “Excited is an understatement.”
Dad Dion says it will be challenging to care for the new brood in addition to the family’s 1-year old twin boys, 3 year old son and 7-year old daughter. But the proud dad says he is up to task of taking care of nine children and has already received offers of help for babysitting from among family members and friends.
“We have a vehicle for the family right now, but we don’t have a vehicle for the five others,” said Deon Derrico, who works as a field property manager. “There’s just so much to figure out.
According to reports, the babies who ranged in weight from 1 pound, 14 ounces to 2 pounds, 15 ounces — are being cared for in the neonatal intensive care unit at Cardon Children’s Medical Center.
Mom remains in good condition at Banner Desert Medical Center.
Derrico works as a real estate property manager. His current home is less than 3,000 square feet with only five bedrooms. Mrs. Derrico managed to conceive quintuplets without the use of any special fertility drugs but did receive hormones during the pregnancy.
She even carried the babies for 32 weeks and two days, a month longer than the national average for quintuplets.
“This has humbled me,” Deon Derrico told the Sun. “I feel very honored that God chose us.”

At 11: 17 a.m., Deniko, a boy was born.
At 11:18 a.m., Dariz, a boy, was born.
At 11:19 a.m., baby girl Deonee arrived.
At 11:20 a.m., their sister, Daician came next.
Finally, Daiten, a girl, was born at 11:21 a.m.
