Jules Stewart Directing Debut in “K-11”
“K-11” Misses the Mark
Jules Stewart may not be the household name that her daughter Kristen has become, but she is in the same line of business. The former script supervisor is releasing her first independent film today. Called “K-11”, according to the New York Daily News the film is “an old-school exploitation film” starring several well-known character actors including Goran Visnjic. The twist in the tale is that, instead of women, the ones being oppressed are transgender and gay inmates in an LA prison. Stewart is expecting the film to appeal primarily to a LGBT audience.
While Stewart is hoping for a cult hit, the film has not held early appeal for the critics. The Hollywood Reporter said that ” it is not quite good enough to deserve edgy cult status, and not quite bad enough to be a camp classic,” while the Village Voice went on to state that “too few kitsch pleasures to reach cult status.”
