Lada Gaga’s thirst for media attention knows no limits. The singer, who is currently wheel chair bound following hip surgery, reached out to custom jeweler Ken Borochov via her surrogates. Borochov was tasked with designing a 24-karat gold wheel chair with a deadline of one week.

The result is a black-leather cushioned wheel chair with a little more than 1.5 ounces worth of pure gold used to plate the metallic frame. At a value of $1,600 per ounce of gold, the street value of the plating is $2,600. Borochov designed the wheel chair to have the appearance of a mobile “throne”. He is not disclosing how much he was paid to design the chair.

In a recent photo shoot, Borochov said he was unsure if Gaga would make any use of the chair.

Obviously, the main purpose of the chair is to draw attention to Lady Gaga and keep her relevant in the eyes of the press. Her injury and subsequent surgery have forced her to cancel her “Born this Way Ball” tour which had just barely kicked off. Gaga revealed that her surgery was to address a “labral tear of the right hip” which was caused by her active lifestyle.
