Family Member Reports Lea Michele Planned to Marry

Actress Lea Michele’s grandfather has reported to news media sources that his famous granddaughter was in fact planning to marry fellow “Glee” cast member Cory Monteith, who died last weekend of a cocaine and alcohol overdose.

Michele’s grandfather, Albert Sarfati, confirmed that the pair was already making wedding plans shortly before Monteith’s tragic and unexpected death and had been confiding to friends about their nuptial plans. Her grandfather characterized the actress as being heartbroken and her friends confirm that she feels emotionally devastated by the loss of her fiancé.

Albert Sarfati tells America’s Star magazine, “They were about to be married. I’m sure Lea is brokenhearted.”

Meanwhile, a source close to the tragic couple adds, “They were quietly hinting to their pals about making wedding plans. I can’t imagine how crushing this is to Lea.”

Michele and Monteith met several years ago on the set of the popular musical TV series “Glee” but didn’t admit that they were involved with each other until 2012. Although there were rumors that the pair had gotten engaged earlier this year, neither Michele nor Monteith would either confirm or deny that they were headed to the altar.

Although Monteith had been in the company of friends on the night that he died, his lifeless body was discovered in a Vancouver, Canada hotel room the next morning when he failed to appear for an appointment. Monteith had admitted to struggling with drug addiction issues for years and had recently undergone a month of rehab.

A spokesperson for the British Columbia’s coroner’s office said the autopsy took place Monday, and will include toxicology samples.

“We do understand there is a lot of public interest in this case and we’ll try and get it done in as good a time we can, without compromising the integrity of the investigation or the testing,” the spokesperson said Monday in an audio file released on the coroner’s website.

Sgt. Randy Fincham said it’s now up to the coroner to determine what happened to the Canadian-born actor, who was found dead in a Vancouver hotel room Saturday afternoon.

“To say that he (Monteith) has reached people in a large number of homes would be an understatement,” Fincham told reporters during a press conference Monday.

“We’re getting hundreds of phone calls an hour regarding this, as well as an equal number of emails. (Monteith’s death) obviously has a bearing on a lot of people and a lot of families that watched the program.”

Fans continue to visit a memorial outside the Fairmount Pacific Rim Hotel. On Sunday, Cory Monteith’s cousin Richard Monteith visited the site to drop off flowers.

“He’s my cousin, but I would like maybe not to talk right now,” a visibly shaken Richard Monteith said. “A little bit more time, please.”
