]Marine Stationed in Camp Pendleton Catches Great White Shark
Camp Pendleton, San Diego – A US Marine currently stationed at the legendary base for Marine boot camp, enjoyed some R&R of fishing off the beach recently and reeled in the catch of a life time: a great white shark. Admittedly, the great white he captured was just a teenager measuring in a ten feet in length and not much larger than a dolphin.

He only recently decided to go public with his catch. The incident took place on October 27 and was captured on film and digital images. The Marine, Jeff Fangman, is a self-proclaimed big fish angler and made his prize catch using heavy gear and a kayak. The latter was used to draw take the bait out a distance. Fangman recently moved to Camp Pendleton with his wife and children.

On the eventful day, he expected to catch a stingray or shark, but never figured on catching a man eating predator.

Speaking to 10News he said: “The line just started rolling off the reel.”

“Lo and behold, it ended up being a great white,” Mr Fangman added.

“Seeing it in the water was just … it was almost mind blowing,” said Fangman. “It’s taken several weeks to get the whole ordeal to sink in.”

In the past, he has caught lemon sharks, bull sharks, tiger sharks, and sandbar sharks, but always when fishing in the coastal waters. However, when he felt his line tug that certain way experienced anglers are familiar with, he knew a large prize was hooked. He later set the shark free out of respect for its protected species status.
