Mom Quadruplets: Woman Thought She Was Having Triplets Got A Fourth Surprise

Mother in Delivery of Triplets Discovers Fourth Child
Jackson, Mississippi – Kimberly Fugate, age 42, knew she was going to deliver a tassel of critters when she went into labor on Saturday, February 8, at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. She had undergone numerous ultrasounds and was expecting identical triplet boys. One by one each of her sons was delivered. However, just as she thought her labor was complete, she heard her doctor exclaim that he could see additional feet.
The new mother will now have three triplet boys to care for and one daughter. The new mother of quadruplets is doing well. Her four children, which were born 13 weeks early, are in neonatal intensive care, but are doing well.
Her husband wasn’t with her for the delivery. When he arrived to greet his wife, she gleefully displayed four baby ID bracelets and beckoned him to count the number she told The Clarion-Ledger newspaper.

As per Dr. James Bofill, the medical center’s Director of Maternal Medicine, he had never experienced such an event in all his 27 years of medical practice.
‘I was very embarrassed, obviously,’ he said. ‘The news was sent to me by one of my fellows. I thought she was kidding.’
He explained that the odds of a natural birth resulting in quadruplets is 1 per 729,000 pregnancies. The fact that Mrs. Fugate also gave birth to a girl made the event even more unique.

The Fugates, who also have a 10-year-old daughter, Katelyn, named the babies Kenleigh Rosa, Kristen Sue, Kayleigh Pearl and Kelsey Roxanne.
All four babies are expected to stay in the hospital until May.
