Paris Metro Transit Patrons Offered Politeness Manual
The public transit authorities for the city’s sprawling metro services have issued a manual on politeness to reduce improper behavior by patrons as they use the subway services. The manual is none other than Robert Fulghum’s 1988 best-seller “All I Really Need To Know I Learned in Kindergarten”. Well, not really, but perhaps it ought to be.
The manual, entitled “Savoir-vivre for the modern traveler” or “Good Behavior for the modern traveler” was compiled from over 2,000 suggestions from regular patrons of the metro system. Some of the suggestions deal with paying respect to the no-smoking signs and not filling the cabins with second-hand smoke. Others remind the natives to be civil to tourists who can often get lost in the maze of subways.
In addition, patrons are counseled to help old ladies carry in their grocery bags, hold the door open for others entering the trains, and being patient when cramped up in crowded subway trains or when someone accidentally steps on your toes. It is not clear if one of there is a rules that patrons act their age. The transit authority also plans to employ up to 3,000 polite police to enforce good behavior.
