Roadside Crew Along M3 Find Rare Albino Corn Snake
Hampshire, England – A roadside crew long the M3 in this southern English coastal area discovered a rare albino corn snake. The corn snake is native to Texas which made it all the more perplexing as to how the snake found its way into junction 13 of the M3 just outside of Eastleigh.
The crew managed to keep the snake safely contained until an EM ecologist arrived to verify it was non-venomous and subsequently take it to safety. Temperatures in the area of Hampshire are not favorable for a southwestern US snake. Thankfully, crews were able to capture it before it could succumb to the colder weather.
The name “corn snake” is a misnomer dating back to 1675. The snake is actually a rat snake which kills its prey by constriction. They are docile by nature and not prone to bite. A full grown snake will grow to a length of 3.9 ft. to 6.0 ft. Their life span is 6 to 8 years, but kept in captivity and well cared for they can live up to 23 years. As to the original question of how this snake made it to England, its owner brought it. Apparently, the snake had escaped from its cage, but the owner has now come forward to claim it.
