Thief Caught Green Handed And Green Faced

1 of 3. Yafet Askale, who was convicted of stealing from a car, is seen in this undated photograph received from the Metropolitan Police in London on September 30, 2013.
28-year-old Yafet Askale is lucky to have gotten off with as light a punishment as he did. The car burglar was sprayed by a special green dye that is visible only when viewed under ultraviolet light. The dye was splattered on him unbeknownst to him as he was breaking into a vehicle to purloin the car’s contents in the Northwest part of London known as Harlesden.
London police questioned Mr. Askale about the break-in and he denied any involvement in the crime. His nose might as well have started growing on him because the UV light the police placed him under showed his head, hair, neck, and eyes are nice shade of green. It never bodes well for anyone to make false statements to the police.
For his crime, Askale was sentenced to merely 49 hours of community service and ordered to pay a fine of $600 to the court. How about paying for the damage to the car or to refill the green dye?
Police have posted notices that similar dye traps have been placed throughout the city. Note to the police: it may make for a more effective message if the punishment were harsher than community service.
