Tim Tebow Offered $1M to Play Two Football Games in Russian League

Football fans in Russian may soon be saying “? ???? ? ?????????” (welcome) to Tim Tebow if he accepts the offer by the Mikhail Zaltsman to play two games for his team the Black Storm in the semifinals of Russia’s professional football league.

“We have offered him $1 million for two games,” Moscow Black Storm owner Mikhail Zaltsman told RBTH. “I talked with him personally and he wanted to go.”

Tebow’s dream has been to be a quarterback in the NFL but it has proved elusive for him. He gained wide attention for this overt Christian faith which has endeared him to evangelicals who seem to believe that God pays a lot of attention to American sports and bestows favors on some players and teams over others.

After his Cinderella year with the Denver Broncos in 2011, Tebow has had a rough time landing a contract with any team. He had a two-year non-guaranteed contract with the Baltimore Ravens before being cut from the team a fortnight ago.

Apparently, Tebow is interested in taking the Russian gig as it’s worth a tidy sum of money. He would be starting quarterback. However, his handlers believe it would not help out his image. They would rather see him embark on a career as a motivational speaker.

Sports analysts agree that he stands nothing to gain by going to Russia and beating up on sub-par competition.

Tebow’s agents reportedly are urging him to not play.

“They’re thinking of using him as a motivational speaker,” Zaltsman said. “They don’t want him to play football.”

Recently Tebow’s former quarterback coach, Steve Clarkson, told USA Today that he thinks the Canadian Football League might be an ideal landing spot for Tebow.

“It’s time now to maybe just reconsider a different path to his ultimate dream. Tim might want to look to the CFL because he may have run out of options in the NFL,” Clarkson said. “Sitting is not an option for Tim. He’s ultra-competitive. He needs to stick to his strength, which is being in a competitive environment.

“Anyone who wants to work on their craft the way Tim does, he just needs to give himself a couple of days and really decide, ‘Is this what I want to do?’ Clearly, football is still in his blood.”

The Montreal Alouettes own Tebow’s rights should he opt to pursue that route.
