Tony Romo $108 million: Among Leagues Highest Paid Players
Dallas Cowboy’s Quarterback Tony Romo has become the team’s highest paid player ever following a six year contract extension worth $108 million. Romo’s six year contract extension coupled with the one year remaining on his existing contract guarantee him three years and $55 million in income.
While Romo’s contract is substantially less than the $120 million deal Joe Flacco struck with the Baltimore Ravens, Romo’s contract provides $3 million more dollars in guaranteed income, reports ESPN.
Romo is excited about the new deal he made expressing to the press that the deals helps make Dallas a better team. He also said that Dallas gives it’s players a “chance to win” and this deal brings the team closer to becoming a winning one.
The negotiations between Romo and Dallas were intense given the salary cap restraints.
However, R.J. Gonser, one of Romo’s agents, implied that Romo strongly preferred to remain with the Cowboys. Gonser said that Romo has a good relationship with the franchise owners and has sown root in the community with his wife, a Dallas native. Romo’s regular season accomplishments put him in the same league with former Dallas QB’s Roger Staubach and Troy Aikman.
However, the latter two QB’s brought the team Super Bowl victories.
