Two OSU Cheer Leading Coaches Fired Over Sexual Harassment Allegations
After the huge fall out that Penn State experienced in the wake of Jerry Sundusky’s child molestation and subsequent conviction, one thing is for certain and that is no university will put at risk their reputation by turning a blind eye to a potential problem. Sandusky’s fall brought about the dishonorable end of the career of Coach Joe Paterno who was looking to end his reign as head coach amid fanfare and instead was sacked of his position.
“Ohio State University has no tolerance for this type of behavior,” said Gary Lewis Jr., an OSU spokesman. “The university conducted a complete and thorough investigation and found that the behaviors of Hollins and Bumbrey were inconsistent with university values and violated university policies.”
Against that backdrop, a cheer leading sexual harassment scandal broke out at the Ohio State University (OSU). Two cheer leading coaches, Dana Bumbrey and Eddie Hollins, were fired following an anonymous allegation about the two on the University’s ethics phone number. The two men were not terminated as a direct result of a mere allegation. However, after an investigation concluded that Bumbrey had been making inappropriate comments about certain female cheerleaders such as nicknaming one of them “Fornication” and stating that another always seemed to have her legs spread open, that was enough for the university to terminate him for the ethics violation of sexual harassment. In the case of Hollins, he had slapped male cheerleaders on their buttocks, grabbed their testicles, and even shower in front of them.
