Caitlin Heller, a young adult woman, was looking to please her boyfriend by making a video of herself “twerking”. Twerking is the rapid motion of the hips giving them a bouncing-like appearance while concomitantly jiggling the buttocks. It is considered highly sexual and provocative – when done right that is.
In comes, Ms. Heller whose self-made twerking video features her propping herself upside down against her apartment door when her roommate unexpectedly enters the residence sending Heller toppling onto the glass coffee table and several lit candles which were intended to give the video an erotic flavor.
Subsequently, the video turns to young adult woman screaming and the unfortunate freak accident of Heller catching fire from the candles. Thankfully, no one was hurt. Oddly enough, Ms. Heller decided to post the video of herself on the internet where it picked up 300,000 hits in three days.
The common adage among gangsta rappers is that you’re no one until you’ve been shot. Might this video now lay down the standard for earning one’s twerking street cred? Either way, Ms. Heller has now earned some valuable cred that other people wouldn’t even be able to buy at any price.
It a major testament to pop-culture, the internet age and the entertainment industry, when terms such as “twerk” and “selfie” have been officially added to the Oxford Dictionary. These slang words and the actions that define them have had such an effect on society that it was decided that they were not passing phases and should be added to this long distinguished periodical.
