In 2008 the life of half-ton Texas woman, Mayra Rosales, changed forever when she was charged with the murder of her 2 year old nephew, Eliseo. Though originally confessing to killing him by accidentally rolling over him and crushing him, in 2012 she was acquitted of the charges after autopsies showed that the boy had died from trauma to the head.
During the trial, Mayra admitted that she did not roll onto her nephew, but that her sister Jaime (the boy’s mother) had hit him in the head with a hairbrush for not eating his dinner. She claimed to have given the false confession to try to protect her sister so her other nieces and nephew would have their mother. Jaime Rosales is now serving 15 years in prison for the murder.
But that’s not the only change in Mayra’s life in the past 5 years. She has also lost 600 pounds through diet change, surgery, physical therapy, and rehabilitation and says that where before she was merely alive, now she actually has a life.
“A lot of it is the diet,” she told Access Hollywood. “I’m eating healthy food. Everything is measured by a dietician.”
Unrecognizable: Mayra (pictured with her cousin) has indeed managed to shed an astounding amount of weight thanks to surgeries, physical therapy, and huge changes to her diet. But now she must adjust to normal life
Mayra is set to star in TLC documentary “Half-Ton Killer: Acquitted and Transformed”, which will air December 4th.
The documentary will go through the trial and her weight loss journey, including being broken out of her house and transported via U-Haul to the hospital.
The special will premiere at 9 p.m. Dec. 4.
