Mother and Ex-Girlfriend of the Late Paul Walker Reach Guardianship Agreement

In a will that was data 14 years ago, when Paul Walker’s daughter Meadow was barely a year old, he designated that his mother, Cheryl Ann Walker, be the sole guardian of the girl and his estate should the unthinkable occur to him. This past December, the unthinkable occurred and what ensured was a custody battle between Mrs. Walker and Meadow’s mother Rebecca Soteros. It doesn’t take a genius to understand what was at issue, at least with the much younger and comparatively immature Soteros, was the $25 million estate Paul Walker left behind and how big a piece of that she could carve out for herself. After all, if she were to be the girl’s custodian, she would have the legitimate duty of counting the money and for that she deserves compensation.

Previously unable to settle the custody matter, a court date was set for this past Thursday. Now, it is learned that both Cheryl Walker and Rebecca Soteros have reached a preliminary accord that allows Mrs. Walker to execute her son’s will as he intended. Mrs. Walker will be Meadow’s custodian until the 15-year-old comes of age. She will also manage the estate of her late son. In a sign of just how intent she was to prevail in the custody struggle, she brought up Soteros’ past problem with alcohol abuse. The court records indicated that Soteros’ past DUI conviction in 2003 and some current ones in the state of Hawaii were going to be fair game in painting her as unfit to raise Meadow.

However, the two women recently met to discuss the matter and it appears they resolved some of the more contentious issues. Not everything is settled yet, but both parties are confident that they can now resolve the matters out of court. Soteros’ attorney claimed any allegation of drinking problems are unfounded. That said, his client will be appearing in a Hawaiian court in May for another DUI charge.
