Tiger Woods Barefoot Shot Becomes Instant Classic
Golfer Tiger Woods took off his shoes and went wading to save par at the Honda Classic tournament in Florida on Thursday, according to reports.
After a slow start on the back nine of the course, Woods hit his sixth-hole tee shot into the water hazard, forcing him to don rain pants and make a play from the water.
Woods said, “It was only half submerged so I could play some sort of explosion shot and get it back in the fairway.”
The choice turned out to be a good one, as Woods was able to birdie the seventh hole and finish even for the day. He required 32 putts to get through the round but was satisfied with his performance.
Had Woods not been able to hit the shot, it could have been disastrous.
“I was 1-over at the time, and if that ball is not playable from where it’s at, where I crossed was pretty far back and I would have had to have dropped. I couldn’t even get an angle in the first cut and had to drop in the primary and had to lay up and didn’t get that up and down … I’m looking at a 6, 3-over. All of a sudden I flip it, make par there and birdie the next. Could easily have been 3-over and all of a sudden I’m even.”
The once-phenomenal golfer has struggled with personal issues in recent years, including the scandal surrounding his many infidelities and eventual divorce from Elin Nordegren. The pair were recently spotted together in public.
