‘Boardwalk Empire’ Season 4 Premiere Recap: “New York Sour”

Peace, Sex, and Murder…

The Season 4 premier of Boardwalk Empire delivered a wild assortment of back-room deals, strange sexual encounters, and cold-blooded murder. Just about right for 1920’s gang life, right?

First off, Nucky Thompson needed to make peace with the New York mob bosses he was warring with in Season 3. He went with a classic negotiation tactic, “give them cash!” He handed Joe Masseria a bag of cash to make things right for killing off 15 of Joe’s men, and he also made peace with Arnold Rothstein by getting him in on a high-stakes card game.

Now, to cover the disturbing sex base, Chalky White’s assistant Dunn Purnsley had a rendezvous with the wife of a talent agent. Little did he know the husband was in on the deal, and watching. When he figured it out, Dunn snapped and killed the agent with a broken liquor bottle.

If that is not enough murder for you, never fear. This episode had even more mayhem to offer. Richard Harrow killed three mob goons during this episode, but his reasons are still unclear at this point.

Finally, we see the continued growth and development of the criminal career of a young Al Capone as he and his brothers expand their “business” in Chicago.
