Valerie Harper Update: Brain Cancer Not Slowing Down 74-Year-Old

Valerie Harper Optimistic About Heath Despite ‘A Few Little Strange Things’

Valerie Harper returned to the ‘Dancing with the Stars” stage on Tuesday with little if anything to complain about in regards to her health. She was voted off of the show in October, but returned to dance with her partner, Tristan MacManus, in the season finale.

The 74-year-old was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer earlier this year, but she doesn’t seem to be letting the diagnosis slow her down. She reveled that she had a few odd things happen, but believed they would have occurred anyway. Doctors gave her only a few months to live, but she’s still dancing.

“I don’t have any big terrible symptoms, so as long as that’s happening and I’m seeing my doctors, what’s to complain about? There’s people out there really suffering, so I’m feeling pretty good,” Harper told PEOPLE.

Harper got her start on Broadway as a dancer and choir girl in the play “Lil Abner.” However, she is famous for parts like ‘Mary Morgenstern’, a quirky New Yorker, on the 70’s hit “The Mary Tyler Moore Show.” The part earned four Emmys and a Golden Globe award.

She is thankful to get to spend the holidays with her family.
